The Madrid competitors might be dwindling, but the action continues to heat up as history is being made at the Mutua Madrid Open. One Spanish woman continued to push past obstacles, while one Spanish teen celebrated his 18th birthday alongside a Grand Slam champion.

John Isner

At last month's Miami Open, the American found himself holding match point against Spain's Roberto Bautista Agut, but couldn't finish the job. On Wednesday in Madrid, the exact same story was told only flipped this time with Isner saving one match point to post a 6-4, 6-7 (4), 7-6 (6) score. The world 39 will next face Madrid's No. 6 seed Andrey Rublev for a quarterfinals spot.

"It is the best moment of my career without a doubt."

With a 6-4, 7-5 win over Belinda Bencic, Badosa became the first Spanish woman to reach the semifinals in Madrid. It's also her first WTA 1000 semifinal appearance and she will take on No. 1 seed Ashleigh Barty for a final-round ticket.

Stefanos Tsitsipas

The Greek is feeling eager to become a better player and wants to hold a Top 3 ranking by the end of the season. His dominating 6-1, 6-2 performance against Frenchman Benoit Paire perfectly displayed what's on his mind. The Madrid No. 4 seed will battle Casper Ruud next.

Although Alcaraz had to face one of the toughest clay-court competitors in Nadal on Wednesday, he still had the coolest 18th birthday ever. The Spanish teen captured his opening round against Frenchman Adrian Mannarino in straight sets, but fell to the 20-time major champ 6-1, 6-2 in the Round of 32.
