World No. 1 Novak Djokovic dispatched fast-rising Italian Jannik Sinner in his opening match in Monte Carlo on Wednesday, 6-4, 6-2, and in doing so improved to 10-0 in 2021, having gone 9-0 in Australia—2-0 at the ATP Cup, and 7-0 en route to his 18th Grand Slam title at the Australian Open.

It’s the sixth time in his career that Djokovic has gotten off to a 10-0 start (or better) to a season, having previously done it in 2011 (41-0), 2012 (10-0), 2013 (17-0), 2016 (14-0) and 2020 (26-0).

“I think ‘solid’ is a good word to describe the performance,” he said after his win over Sinner. “I know I can always do better. I’m working towards playing on an even higher level than I did today.”
