Back in 1998, President Bill Clinton was lying about Monica Lewinsky, the Denver Broncos won their second straight Super Bowl, and Venus Williams—at 17 years old—was already a star.

An article from The Source Magazine came out in April 1998 detailing the then career of a rising Venus and the future of her younger sister, Serena.

"In 1997 alone, Venus was on David Letterman, Jay Leno, Montel Williams and 60 Minutes, was the subject of countless articles, and was on the cover of Sports Illustrated **after the U.S. Open, even though she lost the final," wrote Stacy Y. China.

Williams first came onto the WTA Tour in 1994 at San Jose, losing in the second round. It wasn't until 1997 when her name became mainstream, reaching her first career WTA final at the US Open. Despite losing to then world No. 1 Martina Hingis, the 17-year-old was immediately a star.

Safe to say that both Williams sisters lived up to their potential.
