It was another day of solid play in Charleston. A couple of players are finding their footing on the green clay after being in a rut.

These are the Top 5 photos from Thursday at the Volvo Car Open.

1

Ons Jabeur

For the first time since last October, the world No. 28 is through to the quarterfinals. Jabeur took down Alize Cornet, 5-7, 6-3, 6-3, to set up her third meeting against Coco Gauff. The Tunisian player has yet to come out on top against the American teenager.

Sloane Stephens

The 2017 US Open champion soared into the last eight with a decisive 6-3, 6-4 win over Aussie Ajla Tomljanovic. This marks the first time since the 2019 edition of Roland Garros that Stephens has reached the quarterfinal round at a WTA event.

Danka Kovinic

What a week it's been for the 26-year-old from Montenegro. Kovinic defeated two-time major champion Petra Kvitova, 6-4, 6-1, to move into the quarterfinals. She will face the feisty Yulia Putintseva in her first quarterfinal showing of the season.

Coco Gauff

The teenager ended Lauren Davis' great run in Charleston with a solid 6-2, 7-6 (2) scoreline. This is her third last eight appearance of the year and will look to keep her perfect winning record against Jabeur.

Yulia Putintseva

The 26-year-old was not having a great day at the office. For the majority of the first set, Putintseva's racquets were being smashed into the ground and stomped on in pure frustration. Although Garbine Muguruza led Putintseva, 6-0, 2-2, the Spaniard was forced to retire due to a left leg injury. It was an unexpected turn of events, to say the least.
