At the age of 27, Nicole Gibbs has officially called it a career. The former world No. 68 shared the news on social media as she plots a second career, in law.

After a stellar junior career, Gibbs played college tennis at Stanford, winning multiple NCAA titles before going pro in 2013. She used the pandemic-impacted 2020 season to finish off her college degree, and revealed she has applied to law school and hopes to start in the fall.

"My dreams and ambitions are continuously morphing and crystalizing as I go through this transition, but I know I wish to work in public service: to give a voice to those who are institutionally silenced or sequestered to the margins of society," Gibbs wrote. "Whether this manifests as a career in civil rights law, politics, or writing, I am unsure."

Gibbs hadn't played a match since the Indian Wells WTA 125K last March. She won seven ITF titles during her career, and appeared in the third round of the 2014 US Open and 2017 Australian Open.
