Jason Isbell has won a batch of Grammy Awards and acclaim from music critics and fans alike for his folk-country rock testimonials. He's won a battle with alcoholism as well, now sober for years, he can say he's beaten fellow troubadour Frank Turner at tennis.

Granted, Isbell was up a leg or two from the start, having worn actual athletic shoes instead of the flimsy flip-flops Turner selected for the occasion. As much as anything, he might've tripped over the patches of weeds on their public court of choice.

To Turner's credit, he sincerely seems to understand tennis, even its scoring. Among his lyrics are lines such as "I'm love forty down, as the day slips away from me/ I have to say that honestly, I still haven't found/ The person who can take the strain of deuce, advantage, back again."

Forever obsessed with the intersection between tennis and music, and reporting on it since my origin story of sorts for Tennis Served Fresh in 2011, you can count on this writer to keep you apprised to this end. For now, please forgive that Turner and Isbell's multimedia showdown slipped through the cracks of my cultural awareness a few years back, just as nearly anything could slip through the cracks of their ramshackle court.
