The world No. 9 could not be stopped in her Abu Dhabi opener. Sakkari's all-court game proved to be too much for Anastasia Potapova as she grabbed a 6-4, 6-2 win to start her season. The Greek successfully held serve each time and struck 18 winners.
The 23-year-old from Spain was made to work for each point against Anastasija Sevastova. Badosa started strong, but struggled in the second, giving the Latvian room to push things to a deciding set. In the end, the world No. 70-ranked Badosa came out on top with a 6-2, 5-7, 6-2 victory.

The American spent the off-season improving her fitness and match toughness by getting in tons of practice sets in. The French Open finalist will look to build momentum in Abu Dhabi when she faces Yang Zhaoxuan in her opening round.
