The 2020 season was not what anybody had anticipated, but players figured out how to have all kinds of fun nonetheless. Baseline is counting down the Top 10 viral moments of 2020.
When Madison Brengle took out No. 19 seed Dayana Yastremska in dominant fashion, 6-2, 6-3 in the second round of the US Open, she was ready to celebrate right away.
Today's clear #USOpen MVP is Delaware's Madison Brengle.— Ben Rothenberg (@BenRothenberg) September 3, 2020
-Dominated #19 Dayana Yastremska 6-2, 6-3;
-Explained a less-than-rigorous mid-tournament routine;
-Shouted "Alcohol!" and was promptly brought a bottle of Sutter Home red to chug by Arina Rodionova (whom she beat in R1) pic.twitter.com/bdHL9drH3I
Brengle's friend Arina Rodionova had a mini-bottle of wine ready in the stands. It turns out that the duo spent the 24-hour isolation period together at the start of their New York trip, and it was there that Brengle had already shown off her affinity for the alcoholic beverage.
As fate would have it, Brengle actually beat Rodionova in the first round when the Aussie got in at the last second as a doubles alternate after Lesia Tsurenko withdrew.
The euphoria would be short lived as the 30-year-old would fall in the third round of her home Slam to Shelby Rogers.
