On Sunday, Roger Federer was named Switzerland's best athlete of the last 70 years and accepted the honor at the Switzerland Sport Awards.

His speech sent the tennis world buzzing after he revealed he's not sure about his 2021 return. He told SRF and WOWOW that he might not be ready for the Australian Open, but was focusing on the summer swing, particularly the Olympics.

The 39-year-old underwent right knee surgery in February, followed by a second procedure over the summer. He hasn't appeared on the ATP tour since the Australian Open semifinals.

In his speech, he hinted that time was running out.

"I stand there tonight with an incredibly good feeling and share that with all of you," he said."I hope that there will be something to see with me next year. If not, then that's an unbelievable end point."
