Daniil Medvedev has defied the odds and earned the biggest title of his career. In the championship match at the ATP Finals, the Russian took down Dominic Thiem, coming back from a set down, to win the trophy. After two hours and 43 minutes, Medvedev prevailed, 4-6, 7-6 (2), 6-4.

Along the way in London, the 24-year-old did not lose a match (going 5-0) and beating top seeds Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal. He's the first player at the ATP's year-end event to sweep the Top 3 players in the rankings.

Only three weeks ago did Medvedev have zero wins against Top 10 players this season, and no titles.

Speaking after the match, Medvedev thanked Thiem for a fierce battle.

"First of all what a match. I mean, one of my best victories, three sets against an amazing player," he said. "Dominic, congrats for what you have achieved. Your name is already in the tennis history books. You are playing unbelievable. I hope we will have many more matches to come on big occasions like this."

Unfortunately for Thiem, this was his second consecutive loss in the final at London's O2 Arena. Next year, the tournament moves to Turin, Italy.
