This year saw six new ATP champions crowned and one of them was 20-year-old Thiago Seyboth Wild. With the youngster appearing on Behind the Racquet this week, it's time learn more about him.

Seyboth Wild won the junior US Open in 2018 and climbed as high as No. 8 in the junior rankings. Though his mother wanted him to give up tennis for a stable career in medicine, at No. 115, he's the second-highest ranked Brazilian male in the world. He's also the youngest from his country within the Top 500.

He won his first ATP Challenger last year after winning three ITF-level events in 2017 and '18. He's so new to the higher echelons of the tour that he has only played one main draw of a Grand Slam, the US Open this year, where he lost to Daniel Evans.

When he won the ATP 250 in Santiago in March, Seyboth Wild became the youngest Brazilian to ever win a title and the first male player born in 2000 to do so. He topped Casper Ruud in his first career final appearance.

In March, the Brazilian was the first player to reveal a positive test for COVID-19. The tour was cancelled for six months, after which he reached the final of an ATP Challenger in France in September. He dropped four first-round matches to close out 2020.

Seyboth Wild is a huge Harry Potter fan. So much so that he has several Harry Potter inspired tattoos including the Golden Snitch, Hermione’s eyes, the Forbidden Forest and Hedwig’s head.
