More WTA stars began their campaigns at the last women’s event of the season in Linz, while a couple of upsets ignited on the courts at the ATP 250 event in Sofia.

Jasmine Paolini raced to a 4-1 lead in the opening set, but Sabalenka shook off the dust and rallied her way back to take a 6-4, 6-4 win over the talented Italian. The Linz No. 1 seed will face qualifier Stefanie Vogele for a spot in the event's quarterfinal.

Camila Giorgi

The Italian has faced tough opening round opponents in her last couple of tournaments. Giorgi failed to get past the first round at Roland Garros and also on her home turf at Rome's Premier 5 event. However on Tuesday, the world No. 75 managed to pull off a gritty 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 win against Sara Sorribes Tormo to continue her Linz campaign.

Vasek Pospisil

In an hour and 22 minutes, the Canadian upset Sofia's No. 4 seed Jan-Lennard Struff with a clean, 6-3, 6-4, score. This marks the first tournament since February that the world No. 74 reached the last eight at an ATP event, and he will attempt to reach his second semifinal of the year on Thursday.

Radu Albot

Although Pospisil scored an amazing victory, the world No. 93 won the upset of the day by knocking out Sofia's No. 1 seed Denis Shapovalov, 6-2, 6-4, to claim the biggest win of his career. The Canadian who had a shot at a Top 10 finish, unfortunately will come up just short this season.

Jannik Sinner

The Italian put together a comprehensive 6-2, 6-4 win against Marton Fucsovics to kick off his run at the ATP 250 tournament. The 2019 Next Gen winner made some noise at this year's rescheduled Roland Garros by reaching the quarterfinals, and looks to be in good form in Bulgaria. Sinner will face qualifier Marc-Andrea Huesler next.
