Diego Schwartzman got off to a solid start on Wednesday with a 7-5, 6-3 win over Richard Gasquet in Bercy. After the match, the No. 6 seed signed the camera with #FuerzaDiego.

The act was in support of Diego Maradona, a 60-year-old retired footballer who just underwent brain surgery for a subdural hematoma.

"Well, he's a sports idol since I'm a child," Schwartzman said. "I didn't see him play, just on YouTube or videos that I can see on TV and everything, not live, but he's one of my idols, for sure, in football."

Like Schwartzman, Maradona is Argentinian. He's known as one of the greatest soccer players of all time and is the coach of the Argentine Primera Division club Gimnasia de La Plata.

"I love football, and he's Argentinian, so every place you go, everyone knows Argentina because of Maradona," Schwartzman said. "And that's why I put 'Fuerza Diego', because he's struggling, he's not healthy right now, and he has surgery last night."

According to doctors, Maradona's surgery was a success.

Schwartzman will take on Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the round of 16 in Paris, and is two wins away from clinching his debut in the ATP Finals. Schwartzman will earn the final spot anyway as long as Stan Wawrinka, Milos Raonic or Pablo Carreno Busta do not win the title.
