To use perhaps gag-inducing terms in corporate-speak, go ahead and double-click a layer deeper into the cross-tabulations of that data and you'll find two tennis stars in this mix.

Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova each figure inside the lines of this year's criteria, with 33-year-old WTA retiree Sharapova debuts at No. 87 on the list, with a $200 million net worth. Serena, obviously still active on tour and recently in Roland Garros action, appears just a few notches ahead of her at No. 83 (net worth $225 million).

Each can thank on-court earnings and an array of endorsement deals for their placements, in addition to vivacious entrepreneurial spirits that have them owning namesake businesses, the Sugarpova candy line and the Serena fashion brand, respectively.

Among these top inventive earners are fellow relative youngsters Whitney Wolfe Herd, the Bumble CEO whose company forged a partnership with Serena; Serena pal and fellow 39-year-old Beyoncé Knowles-Carter; Rihanna; Taylor Swift; and a pair of Kardashian kin.

As it so happens, Serena and Sharapova are the only athletes on the list. While knowledgeable observers might not expect them to grab lunch out together anytime soon—no businesswomen's specials for these two—the tennis world can collectively salute the efforts that landed them on this list.
