With nearly 20 episodes under their collective belts, the ATP and WTA stars and staffers who produce "Tennis United," the savvy digital series for such a time as the COVID-19 pandemic, have received recognition for their efforts.

Leaders Sports Award for content creation came their way recently, a tribute to the work of many that sought to bring timely, tailored content directly to tennis fans during the half-year layoff from sanctioned play.

"Tennis United" joined "World Cup at Home" (FIFA and WePlay), "Arsenal Together" (Arsenal), and others as Best Content Creation recipients, for pieces, "bitesize or longform ... that made people laugh, cry or think, engaging and entertaining the audience throughout."

Co-hosts Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Vasek Pospisil deserve heaps of credit for the overall flow of the show, with their good-natured emotional intelligence shining through in segments that addressed topics ranging from mental health to diversity and inclusion, Black Lives Matter to social media hijinks.

Active and retired stars including (though hardly limited to) Naomi Osaka, Novak Djokovic, Garbine Muguruza, Andy Murray and Martina Navratilova have all guested on the show—all readily accessible during a global health crisis. The program, were it a player, could be described as having an all-court game. Moments of gravity and levity thread throughout most every episode, with the co-hosts spiritedly tying things together.

From the Leaders Sports Awards write-up: "With the first show airing on April 10, 2020, Tennis United marked the first time the two tours joined forces to collaborate on a series of content."

Mattek-Sands has said that the show will find ways to continue even with pro tour tennis back in full force. Here's hoping for more ATP-meets-WTA crossovers in the future, whether in downtime or in always-on formats.
