On paper, Victoria Azarenka's first-round Roland Garros win looked quite simple as she needed just 61 minutes to dispatch Danka Kovinic, 6-1, 6-2. The reality was anything but simple.

Cold temperatures and rainy weather hit early on Sunday, putting a dark cloud quite literally over players and tournament organizers. Up 3-0, Azarenka had a chat with the chair umpire about waiting out the rain off the court.

"I think my opponent first of all slipped in the third game, so I think she was also feeling a little bit uncomfortable," she told press. "And I just asked like when my grip is getting wet in between points, like are we going to still continue to play?"

The Belarusian enters the week with a 15-3 record since the tour returned in August so her momentum and confidence is rolling. That doesn't mean she's so grateful to be playing another Grand Slam that she's willing to suffer unnecessarily.

"I don't see a point of sitting on the court when it's 8 degrees (Celsius)," she said.

They were on Court Suzanne Lenglen while only Court Philippe-Chatrier has the benefit of a new roof this year. Azarenka would compete with a tracksuit top on, and despite the challenging conditions, she's kept her perspective intact.

"Right now it's not easy," she said. "But you know, guys, like I don't want to sit here and complain because I think people are going through a lot harder things in life than just bad weather playing on the tennis court."
