Wednesday marked the 50th anniversary of the Original 9 signing $1 dollar contracts to fight for women's rights in tennis. Their brave efforts would result in the Virginia Slims Circuit which would later become the WTA.

Now, 50 years later, WTA players are paying tribute to the incredible efforts of the nine, which includes Billie Jean King, Rosie Casals, Nancy Richey, Julie Heldman, Valier Ziegenfuss, Judy Dalton, Kerry Melville Reid, Peaches Bartkowicz and Kristy Pigeon. On Wednesday, social media was filled with players past and present holding dollar bills, and the tournament in Strasbourg even recreated the famous group photo.
