Shapovalov releases new rap song with Moutet

Ahead of the New York swing, Denis Shapovalov released his first song, "Night Train". His fans and colleagues took notice, including Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

"I followed that," Moutet said in New York. "He did good, I think."

Moutet is also a part-time rapper and with more time during the shutdown to work on his craft, he also made some original music. It only makes sense that the two 21-year-old's would release a collaboration.

"It's a passion," Moutet said during the US Open. "I'm really enjoying spending time doing music. I'm listening to music all day long. If I can share more with people my passion it would be amazing for me. It's a dream. If people want to share music with me, text me guys."

Maybe Shapovalov did text him, but it sounds like they had their song "Drip" in the works long before then.

"It was just again kind of like 'Night Train', just did it at my home during the pandemic," Shapovalov said in Rome. "There was so much time. I saw Corentin was releasing a lot of music, so I figured why not get on a track with him. I actually think it’s really cool song."

Their song is available on Spotify, Apple Music, iTunes and Google Play.

"Obviously it's not my main focus," Shapovalov said. "It's just a hobby that I have and hopefully people are enjoying the music."

Moutet would lose to Shapovalov's compatriot Felix Auger-Aliassime at the US Open and then fall in qualifying in Rome. Shapovalov, fresh off a quarterfinal run in new York, is now into the quarterfinals in Rome.
