Every day of the US Open, Baseline will feature a player of the day for his or her commendable efforts in New York City.

The No. 5 seed Alexander Zverev battled his way back from down a set and 2-4 in the second, to defeat Borna Coric 1-6, 7-6 (5), 7-6 (1), 6-3. Zverev is through to the semifinals and is the first German to reach the final four since 1995.

When asked how he managed to come back after the slow start, Zverev said, "I just started playing a little more aggressive. It was not the level for a quarterfinal of a Grand Slam. I was down 1-6, 2-4, nothing to lose." Zverev has now matched his best major showing, previously reaching the semifinals at this year's Australian Open.

Despite his success in New York thus far, he has one thing on his mind, and that's lifting up the major trophy. This is the first time in 10 years that all four quarterfinalists are 30 years or younger.

"It's obviously a great accomplishment but I don't want to stop here," Zverev said.

However, Zverev needs to tighten his game if he wants to take home the trophy, as he started off the first set with 17 double faults. Coming out the gates with the same focus he displayed towards the end of his match against Coric will help to conserve energy, and up his chances of advancing to the final round.

Although he didn't serve up his best tennis, he fought hard, made Coric hit extra balls and, most importantly, he stayed composed. Zverev simply found a way to win, which should provide confidence moving forward.
