Headlining the Arthur Ashe Stadium night session on Wednesday, Naomi Osaka executed a solid 6-1, 6-2 win over Camila Giorgi, in just an hour and 10 minutes.

But in times like these, not everything can go as perfectly as planned.

On court after the match, Osaka got a surprise video call from her mother, Tamaki. However, technical issues comically prevented them from being able to talk in real time.

"What are you doing?" Naomi said after 30 cute but uncomfortable seconds trying to connect.

At the end of the chat, Tamaki attempted to show a collage of emojis on the screen, though that, too, couldn't be communicated clearly over the call.

The good news: Tennis Channel's Steve Weissman managed to crack the code.

In Round 3, Osaka will take on teen upstart Marta Kostyuk, who ousted Daria Kasatkina and Anastasija Sevastova in her first two matches, both in straight sets.

An Osaka win on Friday would be a great chance for the family to give the "virtual player's box" another try.
