On Wednesday, Caroline Garcia showcased a new level of consistency and picked the right opportunities to be aggressive to stun the US Open's top seed. In her third attempt to dismiss the top seed at a Grand Slam, Garcia got the job done with a 6-1, 7-6 (2) victory over Karolina Pliskova.

"I definitely felt really good on court," Garcia said. "And I was very energized and I really wanted to go out there and give her a battle.'

The 26-year-old's spin mixed with a gusty open-air Louis Armstrong was the ultimate combination for disaster for Pliskova. Garcia's error count was higher than the Czech's, but she wasn't afraid to take her chances and end points on her racquet. Her overwhelming 30 winners reflected that.

"I think there are just some girls which are playing good tennis," Pliskova said. "I think Garcia is one of them."

With seven titles under her belt and consistently finishing in the Top 50, Garcia has the tools to go deep at the majors, but she has tended to leave her toolbox at home at the Grand Slams. She's reached just one quarterfinal, at the French Open in 2017.

Garcia is filled with potential and her convincing second-round win proves it. She's in rhythm and seems to be enjoying her time in the New York bubble, perhaps this event will mark a major breakthrough for the world No. 50.
