Every day of the US Open, Baseline will feature a player of the day for his or her commendable efforts in New York City.

Three-time Grand Slam champion Andy Murray fended off Yoshihito Nishioka on Tuesday after losing the first two sets, eventually making the comeback in almost five hours, 4-6, 4-6, 7-6 (5), 7-6 (4), 6-4.

When asked how the Scot felt after his wild comeback, Murray simply said, "I'm tired...my toes are the worst." Despite not playing in a major since the 2019 Australian Open, which would also be the last time he played best-of-five sets, Murray would over come a slow start and stay alive in the draw.

The former No. 1 played a few exhibition matches at the Battle of Brits until arriving in New York for the ATP Masters 1000 where he reached the round of 16 before losing to Milos Raonic.  While all of his colleagues are match rusty, "Cincy" was his first ATP tournament since winning Antwerp last October.

Perhaps the nearly empty Arthur Ashe Stadium threw Murray off in the first two sets, but he'll feel more settled in, assuming his toe recovers, when he faces Felix Auger-Aliassime in the second round.
