Nine of the Top 10 highest paid female athletes on the planet are tennis players. As *Forbes* has recently reported, the only non-tennis player to make the top of the list is soccer's Alex Morgan, who comes in at No. 10.

After four years of Serena leading the pack, Naomi Osaka moved ahead with a record-setting $37.4 million to become the highest-paid female athlete in history. It's fitting given that 2020 marks the 50th anniversary of the start of the WTA tour. In 1970, Billie Jean King and the Original 9 formed the Virginia Slims Tour, which would become the WTA tour. They made adequate and equal prize money a reality for the players on tour today.
