Baptiste's return game and dog shine at WTT

WEST SULPHUR SPRINGS, W. Va.—Who let the dogs in?! The Greenbrier has been overrun by the cutest canines watching their owners duke it out in Creekside Stadium.

Seven players brought dogs, and one of them is Tsonga, a five-year-old Ori Pei named after Jo-Wilfried Tsonga for his forehead wrinkle. The pug sharpei mix has done a phenomenal job of behaving during matches.

He belongs to Hailey Baptiste, an 18-year-old spending a lot of time practicing, watching matches and walking Tsonga.

"He's really calm," Baptise says. "When he's around other dogs he always want to play."

Often spotted chilling under tables, Tsonga comes out when he spots Ryan Harrison's dog, Sky.

"He's a really good dog. When we're in the house, you can leave food on the table, he'll never jump up and get it," Baptise says. "He's really polite. He's got good etiquette."

As the WTT's alternate, Baptiste has gotten on court once so far when she was subbed into women's doubles for the Las Vegas Rollers on Saturday. The teen showed off her all-court game with plenty of aggressive returns, including a few she followed into the net by chipping and charging.

Despite her efforts, Las Vegas would fall to San Diego. It's all just a great experience for Baptiste, and it's a nice change-up having Tsonga watching her instead of her always watching him.
