Federer designs first pair of shoes with Swiss label, On

Back in 2003, Roger Federer defeated Mark Philippoussis in the final of Wimbledon to capture his first Grand Slam title. The then 22-year-old stood on Centre Court in pure joy as tears rushed down his cheeks.

"I was always joking around when I was a boy, I'm going to win this and now I have it," Federer said in his on court interview following the win.

That was 17 years ago, and now almost two decades later he holds the men's all-time record for Grand Slam titles at 20, and the most Wimbledon wins at eight. Federer didn't have the opportunity to add another title at the All-England Club this year, but he's managed to still win off the court. The Swiss star unveiled his first sneaker  designed in collaboration with On.

The 20-time major champion joined the Swiss running company as an investor last year, and on Monday shared the exciting news of "The Roger" sneaker.

The shoe is a part of the Centre Court O-Series, and although a shoe with Federer's name on it might suggest it's for the tennis courts, it's not—it's for every day wear.

“It’s not for tennis, it’s for the street," Federer said in a Vogue interview.

The tennis-inspired shoe is a crisp and clean white with speckles of gold detail. The shoe is very limited and each is said to be unique and individually numbered. The vegan leather adds comfort to the shoe while reducing the environmental footprint.

Although the shoes aren't made for the court or even running, Federer didn't want to sacrifice comfort. On is known for their CloudTec soles—they look and feel like little cumulous clouds under the feet. Customers may not see the CloudTec soles on the Roger shoe, and that's because Federer challenged the design team to hide it inside the shoe.

“I wanted to make sure we could integrate On’s same technology into a street shoe,” Federer explained.

Since the shoes are ultra-limited, customers must enter a rafflefor a shot at claiming the sleek kicks.
