It’s tough to think of a more surreal return to the desert than Bianca Andreescu’s. A year removed from her Indian Wells glory, Andreescu arrived early in the desert to train and test her still-wounded right knee.

After a few photo shoots and a few practices, Andreescu and her team decided to withdraw from the event and target a Miami Open return instead.  The decision was undoubtedly a difficult one, but it’s best to air on the side of caution, just like the tournament did on Sunday night when they chose to cancel the event.

"Coming back here after winning last year really brought back a lot of nostalgia," Andreescu said. "This is definitely one of my favorite tournaments."

When asked about the tournament's cancellation, Andreescu responded, "I was shocked, but I know they made the right decision. Health is No. 1.”

There aren’t many positives to take away from the situation, but if you're Andreescu looking on the bright side, she, like Roger Federer, will now have ample time to prepare for the restoration of the tours, whenever that may be.
