Venus Williams sat down with her good friend Prakash Amritraj to talk tennis, abs and tacos in Acapulco. The 39-year-old entered the WTA International as the No. 5 seed, having played just one match in 2020 (a Melbourne first-round loss to Coco Gauff).

She would squander seven match points in a first-round loss to  qualifier Kaja Juvan. Venus was seeking her first title in four years. Asked what is keeping her going, the American had this to say:

“It’s so easy to keep that focus. When your job is just to be fit and stay hot, like, why not?" she said. "My job is to keep the abs and the arms going.”

She also talked about her passion for tacos, celebrating Taco Tuesday with her family every week.

"I go from house to house eating," she said. "My mom cooks, my dad has even offered to cook for me. Serena cooks. Isyha cooks. Lyn cooks every time I go there. I just go from house to house eating tacos. I’m spoiled."

She'll have had plenty of tacos to choose from during her brief stay in Mexico, and even a travel companion to dine with as her dog Harry joined her.

"Harry's like a little Cuban guy so he speaks Spanish," she said. "I think he feels very comfortable here."
