Although Serena Williams acknowledges and sees the benefits of gender equality advocates that have come before her, such as Billie Jean King, she knows there's more work to be done.

Winning 23 Grand Slam titles, it's clear Serena is a champion, and she's bringing her winning mentality off the court. Serena is partnering with Secret deodorant to find out more about gender bias through a commission study investigating gender bias across all level of sports.

Secret and Serena are also diving into gender bias by supporting equality programs by pledging $1 million dollars.

"It means a lot to me to even be a part of this with Secret and to use our voices and to try to figure out how we can help gender equality," said Williams to Business Insider. "It only made sense that we would start something, or team up... to impact real change for women."

Serena has been competing on the WTA tour since 1995 and has first-hand experience of the mistreatment and inequality. Locker room conditions, equal show court time, the list is extensive according to the major champion.

The 38-year-old star is a very busy woman; Serena also recently unveiled her spring collection of S by Serena at this year's New York Fashion Week.

As the sun begins to set on a historic career, Serena will look to make even more contributions to the sport before her final exit. She also will attempt to capture a record-breaking 24th Grand Slam title at this summer's French Open.
