Doubles Take: Women's final gets set in Melbourne

As the Australian Open starts making its way to the home stretch, the first finalist spots for the tournament are filled. The final will feature top seeds Hsieh Su-Wei and Barbora Strycova against No. 2 seeds Timea Babos and Kristina Mladenovic.

Three of the top four seeded teams were in the semifinals, and the last time that happened was back in 2014. The other team in the penultimate round this year was no slouch, either.

The first match saw the top seeds, Hsieh and Strycova take on the No. 4-seeded duo of Katerina Siniakova and Barbora Krejcikova. Both teams had been perfect so far in 2020, winning warm-up events right before Melbourne. Hsieh and Strycova have been on cruise control, taking every match in straights so far, including over Sinakova and Krejcikova, 6-2, 6-3.

It had been the opposite situation for Siniakova and Krejcikova: The Czech duo and two-time major winners went the distance every time.

On the other side of the draw, Babos and Mladenovic took out the No. 7-seeded pair of Hao-Ching and Latisha Chan.

Babos and Mladenovic, the 2018 Australian Open champs, came off an impressive win over the American teenagers Coco Gauff and Caty McNally in the quarterfinals. They've now advanced to the final for the third season in a row. Meanwhile, the Chan sisters were attempting to make their first Grand Slam championship match together.

It’s been a great tournament for Latisha: She’s also through to the mixed quarters with Ivan Dodig and will have a crack at the semis tomorrow. The top half of the mixed doubles draw has its semifinal set with Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Jamie Murray set to face Astra Sharma and John-Patrick Smith.
