Serena Williams frolicked inside Margaret Court Arena in Melbourne. Not because she had equaled the stadium's eponymous figure's 24-major mark, which isn't so much even a discussion item anymore.

This appeared to be solely because she's feeling free and light-minded these days. She's glad to be playing ball at age 38, still the queen of the WTA and a Top 10 fixture. And so, obviously ready to take full flight in her opening match and the event overall, she fluttered around the backcourt. Feathery. Racquet-less.

Serena seemed to have every reason to pre-celebrate and strike poses. She rolled to a 6-0, 6-3 first-round victory over WTA No. 90 Anastasia Potapova, that on the strength of nine aces and winning 81 percent of her first-serve points.

Seeded No 8 Down Under, the GOAT gets the No. 70–ranked Tamara Zidansek in round 2 on Wednesday.
