In the last 15 years, tennis has been dominated by the Big Three, and Serena Williams, making it hard for a homegrown talent in Australia to emerge the champion.

The US Open hasn't had an American male winner since 2003, while Roland Garros hasn't seen a French champion since 2000 on the women's side (on the men's side it's even worse, going back to 1983). Wimbledon has two-time champion Andy Murray, but his 2013 win was the first English men's winner since 1936, and Virginia Wade in 1977 was the last to win the women's crown.
