Osaka won the award for Breakthrough of the Year in 2019, while Novak Djokovic picked up the Sportsman of the Year award. Though not nominated this year, Roger Federer is the winningest athlete in Laureus Sports Award history, having won six awards (he last won in 2018).

Osaka's not the only young WTA star up for an award as Bianca Andreescu is nominated for Breakthrough of the Year, and so is 15-year-old Coco Gauff.

The Comeback of the Year category features Andy Murray, and Diede De Groot is nominated for Sportsperson of the Year with a Disability.

The award winners will be revealed on February 17 in Berlin.
