Coco Gauff has arrived in Melbourne and she was joined by cast members from Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. Gauff spent some time casting spells, and did not announce what house she belongs to.

At the Kooyong Classic exhibition, Maria Sharapova's match with Laura Siegemund was abandoned. The hazardous pollution levels and smoke due to the ongoing bushfires in the area made it difficult to play. Sharapova trailed the German, 6-7 (4), 5-5 before officials decided to stop the match.

John Millman has yet to lose a match this 2020 season. He picked up wins over Felix Auger-Aliassime and Michail Pervolarakis at the ATP Cup, and defeated Michael Mmoh, 7-6 (5), 6-4, to keep the winning momentum going in Auckland.

Simona Halep didn't have the easiest day in the office on Tuesday. The Romanian topped wildcard Alja Tomljanovic with a 6-4, 7-5 scoreline. "It was a little bit tough that it was the first match of the year, and even if you practice weeks in a row, it's not like when you play a match," Halep said.

Hobart's No. 2 seed Garbine Muguruza came out firing against Wang Yafan, claiming the match, 6-1, 7-5, to advance to the second round. Muguruza will meet Ons Jabeur for the first time for a spot in the quarterfinals.
