Having been 0-5 in finals since returning to the WTA tour in March of 2018, Serena Williams broke the streak by defeating Jessica Pegula, 6-3, 6-4, in the Auckland final. Husband Alexis Ohanian and daughter Alexis Olympia were on hand to celebrate Serena's first title as a mom.

After battling past Rafael Nadal to level Serbia with Spain in the ATP Cup final, Novak Djokovic returned to the court with good friend Viktor Troicki to win the deciding doubles rubber. Djokovic and Troicki bested Pablo Carreno Busta and Feliciano Lopez, 6-3, 6-4.

In a first-time meeting, Karolina Pliskova overcame Madison Keys, 6-4, 4-6, 7-5, to repeat as champion at the Brisbane International. The world No. 2 posed for photos with the Evonne Goolagong-Cawley trophy at the Howard Smith Wharves afterwards.

Second seed Andrey Rublev did not drop a set en route to opening his season with a title in Doha. The Russian halted qualifer Corentin Moutet, 6-2, 7-6 (3), for his third career crown, and looks to carry his red-hot form into Adelaide.

In Adelaide, Simona Halep teamed up with Juan Sebastian Cabal to face off in a friendly exhibition against Angelique Kerber and Cabal's fellow top-ranked doubles partner, Robert Farah. Headlining the opening ceremonies of the new combined WTA-ATP event, the match also helped raise money for bushfire relief efforts.
