The 2019 fall season was packed with viral moments, milestone victories and baffling changes in direction. Let's reflect on the Aces and Faults from the end of the year, beginning with the highlights. 

In October, Kevin Anderson announces the birth of a baby boy, and John Isner welcomes a son later that month. In December, Lucie Safarova reveals arrival of a baby girl, while Dominika Cibulkova shares her own pregnancy news. 


Vegemite renames their famous spread “Bartymite” in honor of Australian star Ashleigh Barty. She finishes the year as the WTA Finals champion and world No. 1.

On October 19, Rafael Nadal marries Xisca Perello in a private ceremony in Mallorca. The wedding is attended by Carlos Moya, David Ferrer, Marc Lopez, Fernado Verdasco and Feliciano Lopez.


Jannik Sinner eats a carrot mid-match in Vienna. Days later, the 18-year-old Italian becomes the youngest player in Top 100, and finishes the season as the Next Gen ATP Finals champion with a ranking of No. 78.


In November, Caroline Garcia and Kristina Mladenovic put their turbulent past behind them and help lead France to a Fed Cup final win over Australia. The win was made all the more impressive by defeating the Australians on their home turf, with two victories over Barty.

At the WTA 125K Series in Houston, CiCi Bellis wins three matches in her first tournament since March 2018. The American underwent four surgeries on her right arm and will play a full schedule in 2020.

Coco Gauff is named to TIME’s 100 Next list, with Billie Jean King penning her magazine entry. The 15-year-old ends her breakout season with a singles title in Linz and a doubles crown in Luxembourg. 


Despite the loss of his father earlier in the week, Roberto Bautista Agut helps Spain win the Davis Cup title in Madrid. Nadal provides the clinching victory over Canada's Denis Shapovalov.

In December, Bianca Andreescu gets named WTA Newcomer of the Year, and becomes the first tennis player to win the Lou Marsh award, given to Canada's top athlete.
