Former French Open finalist Lucie Safarova has announced the arrival of her first child, a daughter named Lea.

The 32-year-old from the Czech Republic had said she was expecting with former NHL hockey player Thomas Plekanec and shared the exciting update on social media.

"I woke up this morning as a mom...nothing beats that feeling! Welcome to our family Lea," Safarova wrote.

The WTA veteran retired from the tour this season, having won seven singles titles and 15 doubles crowns. Safarova peaked at No. 5 in singles and reached No. 1 in doubles, winning five majors with Bethanie Mattek-Sands and the Olympic bronze medal in 2016 with Barbora Strycova.
