It's usually the likes of Roger Federer and Serena Williams who get to shine in mainstream media.

The first was from Roland Garros, where Nicolas Mahut, following his four-set loss to Leonardo Mayer, had the court rushed by his No. 1 fan, his son Natanel.

And the second showed 15-year-old Coco Gauff defeating her idol Venus Williams in the first round of Wimbledon.

"Her and her sister have been heroes for many little girls out there," Gauff says in the voiceover.

These viral clips wouldn't mark the end of the year's memories for either player, though. Mahut went on to win three doubles titles, including the Paris Masters and ATP Finals, while Gauff appeared in a plethora of strong tournaments, taking her first three WTA titles, two in doubles and one in singles.
