Fresh off breaking the tennis world attendance record with Alexander Zverev in Mexico City, Roger Federer jumped on a plane straight to New York City, to join Savannah Guthrie on the TODAY Show.

Last Friday, Federer shared a special announcement on the TODAYShow, but it was still a surprise for the Federer-obsessed Guthrie.

The Swiss thanked Guthrie for joining him on the court in 2018 for the fifth edition of the Match for Africa. Wanting to repay the favor, Federer stated he would be traveling to New York City to join Guthrie in her office.

During Monday’s show, Federer opened up about retirement, family and his newest business venture with one of the fastest-growing sneaker companies, ON.

Being such a big fan, Guthrie had to maintain her composure during the live interview. For years the host has been very vocal about her love and admiration for the 38-year-old.

She has talked about her fandom on the Ellen Show and on numerous occasions on the TODAY Show.

Stepping into an entrepreneur role had the world pondering, including Guthrie, about Federer's imminent retirement from the sport.

“I’ve been asked all week, how is retirement going to be, and when is it going to come. I think they all just needed to know," he said. "But no, this is not about retirement."

After a week away from his four children, Federer is excited to relax and enjoy quality time with his family before the 2020 season kicks off in January.

“Roger, you’ve always been so kind even though I’m always drooling all over you on TV, Twitter, Instagram and in the studio” Guthrie said before closing out the interview.

Who knows what the future holds, but whenever Federer is ready to hang up the racquets, there will probably be an open spot for him next to Guthrie on the TODAY Show.
