Players are arriving in Zhuhai for the WTA Elite Trophy, a round-robin event that showcases the second tier of players below those that qualify for the WTA Finals in Shenzhen.

Elise Mertens, Aryna Sabalenka and Madison Keys return for the second year, while a ton of new faces will make their debut. Sofia Kenin, Alison Riske, Donna Vekic and Petra Martic have all qualified for the first time.

Johanna Konta, Angelique Kerber and Marketa Vondrousova withdrew with injuries, and Zheng Saisai earned this year's wild card entry. There are still four spots left up for grabs.

Defending champion Ashleigh Barty is playing Shenzhen this year as the current world No. 1. Action in Zhuhai starts next Tuesday features 12 players divided into four groups with the winners of each moving onto the semifinals. The doubles field will have six teams.
