In a new Q&A on CNBC—acronyms, ahoy—the inimitable Serena Williams shares about her ongoing forays into the fashion world. She also double-clicks (that's corporate-speak for extrapolates) on her relationship with longtime partner Nike.

"The main thing I learned is 'Don't get in Nike's space' because they do it well," Serena told interviewer Julia Boorstin, CNBC's entertainment-and-media correspondent.

Williams has been with The Brand Forever Identified by the Swoosh for more than 15 years, dating back to late 2003. Of her Serena fashion line, launched last year, Williams offered: "It's a direct-to-consumer brand. We kind of wanted to cut out the middleman and just bring really great fashion."

A mainstay in recent years at New York Fashion Week, Williams then turned to Advertising Week in the city. She featured in a panel discussion likewise hosted by Boorstin.

Though it has been investing in businesses since 2014, Williams just announced mid-year that her venture capital firm, Serena Ventures, has already leaned in on 30 or so companies.

"Our mission is to be more inclusive," Williams said. "When you think of Silicon Valley, you think of a lot of investments, you think it’s so exclusive, like 'How do I get in that' and 'I can’t invest 'cause I don’t know and there’s no way in,' but we want to make a way where it has more inclusivity and more impact."
