With a sizzling jumping backhand winner on match point, Denis Shapovalov earned his place in yet another ATP semifinal. The Canadian 20-year-old got past dark horse Egor Gerasimov, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 on Friday.

Gerasimov had upset top seed John Isner the day before, while Shapovalov needed a third-set tiebreak to beat Bradley Klahn.

Saturday against Pablo Carreno Busta will mark Shapovalov's third semifinal of the year. He competed in three semifinals last year, and one in 2017 (his career breakthrough at the Rogers Cup). The world No. 34 has never reached an ATP final.
