After starting the season with a bang by winning the Australian Open, it has not been smooth sailing for Naomi Osaka. Losing in the third round at the French Open, first round at Wimbledon, and unable to defend her US Open title, Osaka was title-less until Saturday.

It's truly fitting that her first title since Melbourne would come in her hometown. Osaka lifted the Toray Pan Pacific Open trophy over her head after a dominating performance against Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, 6-2, 6-3.

Osaka poked fun on Twitter at her third, finally successful, attempt at the title, after losing in the 2016 and 2018 finals.

Her compatriot Kei Nishikori congratulated the 21-year-old on her "Osaka+Osaka" win.

Osaka remains fully rooted at No. 4 in the rankings. The Japanese will head to Beijing next week, hoping to work her way back to the top spot.
