A little trash talk never hurt anybody…

It’s no secret that Team World is outgunned and outmanned in their upcoming Laver Cup clash against Team Europe, but that won't stop Nick Kyrgios from chirping at the competition.

He has a point, though. So far, Kyrgios and Jack Sock are undefeated in Laver Cup doubles competition.

Although Team Europe has won both titles, Team World has dominated the doubles, in large part due to Sock’s 5-1 doubles record. When Captain John McEnroe asked Sock to join the squad, the American was eager to accept.

Team Europe consists of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Dominic Thiem, Alexander Zverev, Fabio Fognini and Stefanos Tsitsipas. Team World boasts Kyrgios, Sock, Fritz, John Isner, Denis Shapovalov and Milos Raonic.

Unfortunately, Team World’s highest ranked player, Kevin Anderson, withdrew due to a lingering knee injury. But it opened the door for Fritz, who has had a career-best season.

“Taylor Fritz is having the best season of his career, he’s shown some blistering form this year, and had a rapid rise up the rankings to hit a high of World No. 25,” McEnroe said.

Initially McEnroe tried to recruit Felix Auger-Aliassime, but the Canadian has a different plan.

“His team and agent wanted him to go and play Chengdu,” McEnroe said. “I’m not often at a loss for words, but definitely got me on that one.”

Both Team World and Team Europe have yet to name their seventh members and alternates in the competition. The matches begin in just nine days on September 20 in Geneva.
