Ellen DeGeneres loves to send her executive director Andy Lassner also known as "Average Andy" to various sporting events and competitions. Last week, she sent Lassner to the US Open where he chatted and played with the sport's top names.

He got tips from eventual champion Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Naomi Osaka during media day. Then he took to the court with world No. 1 Novak Djokovic, Stan Wawrinka, Bethanie Mattek-Sands, Madison Keys and Joh Isner. He partnered up with US Open mixed doubles champion Mattek-Sands to take on Bob and Mike Bryan.

Djokovic finished the lesson with an inspiring pep-talk—recorded on a phone to be played again and again—that changed Lassner's outlook and made him realize he's anything but "average."
