The 2019 season continues to give, bestowing another first-time Grand Slam winner. Bianca Andreescu shocked Serena Williams 6-3, 7-5 to capture her first US Open trophy and is the first Canadian singles player to win a major.

With the victory, Andreescu jumps into the Top 5. Serena has lost each of her last four Grand Slam finals, all in the hope of typing Margaret Court's 24 Grand Slam singles titles record.

The 19-year-old's historic win has been celebrated around the world: even Shania Twain sent Andreescu congratulations.

In a match that was very reminiscent of a younger Serena, Andreescu controlled the match from the baseline, employing powerful ground strokes and taking advantage with her first serve.

She's come a long, long way in just 12 months. She lost in the US Open first round of qualifying in 2018, but is now the first teenager to win a Grand Slam since Maria Sharapova won the US Open in 2006.
