Leave it to TMZ to ask the tennis question on no one's mind during this US Open.

The query came when a reporter caught Nadal and fiancée Maria "Xisca" Perello outside of a Manhattan restaurant on a rainy night, as they moved to a waiting vehicle.

On the heels—yes, nine months later—of the Hopman Cup mixed doubles match featuring, in part, Serena Williams against Roger Federer, the opportunistic interviewer asked Nadal if he himself would entertain a match against 2018 US Open singles winner Naomi Osaka.

"Why not?" came Nadal's dispensable reply, as Perello looked on. And that was that, as the van's door shut.

The off-court duo of Nadal and Perello is set to marry in October.
