The world No. 1 Naomi Osaka stepped out for her first-round US Open match on Tuesday wearing an exclusive NikeCourt x Sacai outfit, designed by Chitose Abe.

"I think it's probably the cutest thing that I have ever worn so far," Osaka said. "Designing it, it was a little bit rushed, like, by Nike. I don't think I was supposed to wear, like a collab yet this time around, but they were so kind."

The reigning US Open champion survived a pressure-filled opener against world No. 84 Anna Blinkova, claiming she was more nervous than during last year's final with Serena Williams. Although Osaka released 50 unforced errors to Blinkova’s 22, she pulled out a 6-4, 6-7 (5), 6-2 victory.

Osaka is the first athlete to wear exclusive NikeCourt x Sacai performance apparel. She wore the brand to an off court event at Wimbledon last year.

In New York, her black and orange outfit  (which also comes in white and black) features a double-layer skirt on top of a bodysuit that adds a twist to the classic on-court style.

"The Sacai team were so nice and kind and they managed to get it done, so I'm really grateful for them," Osaka said. "I kind of just picked the colors."

The world No. 1 signed with Nike earlier this year and is the first Japanese-born tennis player to reach the top spot in the rankings. Osaka will continue her title defense on Thursday against Magda Linette.
