The 2019 season keeps seeing first-time winners raise trophies all over the world. This time, Herbert Hurkacz is the new victor, defeating Benoit Paire in the final of the Winston-Salem Open, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, for his first ATP Tour title. He is now the 14th first-time champion on tour this year.

The 22-year-old is the first Polish player to win an ATP tournament since 1982, when Wojtek Fibak (say that five times fast) won in Chicago. Hurkacz denied Paire his third tournament title of the year, and defeated four seeded players along the way to the final, including Denis Shapovalov and Frances Tiafoe.
