The Citi Open, in Washington, D.C., saw one of the most anticipated doubles matches of the year on Monday night, when Nick Kyrgios and Stefanos Tsitsipas teamed up to take on the Wimbledon champions, Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah.

The singles stars got off to a slow start when Tsitsipas lost his serve in the second game of the match, but they found their groove in time for a wildly entertaining second set, which the won to force a super tiebreak before ultimately falling, 6-3, 3-6, 10-5.

Set 2 was defined by two spectacular points: In the first, Cabal blocked a point-blank Tsitsipas forehand while practically on the ground. Kyrgios, of course, answered with a tweener, which Cabal then smashed over the back wall.

But it was later the other guys' turn when Kyrgios, serving for the set, tried another tweener, and this time returned the subsequent smash, allowing Tsitsipas to put the point away with a tight-angled volley.

After the closely contested loss, Kyrgios left a warm message for Tsitsipas on Instagram. And Tsitsipas, too, had positive things to say about Kyrgios.

"I got inspired today, honestly, I won’t lie," the Greek said. "His serve was brutal…I wish I could serve like that. It’s unbelievable to see that in a human being."

Kyrgios will start his singles tournament at Tuesday's night session, where he'll face American qualifier Thai-Son Kwiatkowski. Tsitsipas, the No. 1 seed, has a bye and will start in the second round, on Wednesday, against Tommy Paul.
