Belgian compatriots and life partners Alison Van Uytvanck and Greet Minnen had the raw luck of drawing each other in the first round of the Luxembourg Open on Monday.

Van Uytvanck, 25, came in ranked higher at No. 65, and found herself prepared to ward off in three nervy sets the friendly fire of her world No. 123-ranked girlfriend.

Despite a mid-match blip, the No. 2-seeded Van Uytvanck won, 6-4, 1-6, 6-1. Though partnered off-court and at times in WTA doubles action, the pair had yet to face off in singles.

Van Uytvanck moved on to play Laura Ioana Paar in the second round on Luxembourg's red clay.
